Colie “Shaka” Long

Program Associate Colie “Shaka” Long became an author, speaker, and criminal justice reform advocate while serving over 26 years of incarceration. In his role at PJI, he supports program administration, returning citizens, and Prison Scholars at the D.C. Jail. Since his release in July 2022, Long has also served as a Justice Reform Fellow at FAMM and was appointed to the Board of Directors of Negotiation Works. He is the subject of a recently released documentary about D.C.’s Second Look legislation and is an agent for change in his work with at-risk youth in underserved communities in the District.
