About Us
The Georgetown University Prisons and Justice Initiative (PJI) connects people affected by mass incarceration with opportunities to shape their own futures. In prisons, in our local communities, and on campus, PJI aims to empower currently and formerly incarcerated people as scholars, leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, and advocates.
Grounded in Georgetown’s commitment to social justice, PJI also serves to engage the wider university community in understanding the causes and responding to the consequences of mass incarceration, one of the most pressing crises of our time.
Our Mission
PJI’s mission is to empower currently and formerly incarcerated people by providing access to education and employment and by advocating for just outcomes in the legal system. We aim to support people as scholars, professionals, and leaders who can break cycles of incarceration and strengthen our communities.
Our Vision
We envision a world in which our pasts do not dictate our future trajectory or limit access to lifelong opportunities to learn and grow.
