Prison Scholars Celebrate Summer Semester Achievements
The Prison Scholars Program celebrated the completion of the summer semester at the D.C. Jail!
Following a semester of rigorous coursework, the Prisons and Justice Initiative community came together to celebrate 37 students and their achievements.

Over the summer semester, the Prison Scholars Program offered four courses: “BBB Web Design I,” taught by Marisa Gaetz; “Personal Finance: Money Is Emotional,” co-taught by Joy Comer and George Comer; “Mind, Body, Medicine,” taught by Jennifer Rioux; and “On Wings of Song: Journeying Through Time & Space with Classical Music,” taught by May Lim.
Ramieka Robinson, director of continuing education and professional advancement at the Goucher Prison Education Partnership, delivered the keynote address. Robinson told students she was once in their shoes, and today, she’s living proof of what’s possible.
“Remember: every course you complete, every paper you write, is an investment in your future,” Robinson said.
