2022 Making An Exoneree Cases

Billie Allen

This documentary tells the story of Billie Allen, who was sentenced to death when he was 19. Wrongfully convicted for 25 years, Billie’s case rests on faulty witness testimony and a lack of physical evidence. For those 25 years, Billie has been fighting his case from federal death row, using his art and the legal resources he can get his hands on to shed light on the injustices of his case.

This film was created by Georgetown students Clio Gates, Annabella Hoge, and Jaye Thomas along with University of California Santa Cruz students Shakthi Kandasamy and Fiona Porter.

Shanda Crain

This documentary tells the story of Shanda Crain, a mother, leader, and survivor who has been incarcerated for 27 years for a crime she did not commit. Shanda was wrongfully convicted in the 1995 murder of her parents after police coerced her into giving a false confession that she quickly recanted.

This film was created by Georgetown students Maya Hambrick, Jack Resnick, and Joe Stewart along with University of California Santa Cruz students Dominic Goggins-Rendón and Bingxuan Zhang.

Omar Hooks

“16 to Life” documents the experiences of Omar Hooks, a Chester, PA teenager who fell victim to the injustices of a failing legal system. In 2010, he was charged, tried, and convicted of first degree murder, despite conflicting eyewitness testimonies, a botched investigation, and contradictory ballistics evidence. Omar remains incarcerated to this day, waiting for a team that will truly fight on his behalf.

This film was created by Georgetown students Hugh Brooks, Alexandra Matthews, and Justin Streat along with University of California Santa Cruz students Dylan Burns and Flynn Lloyd.

Faarooq Mansour (aka Andrew Lee)

This documentary tells the story of Faarooq Mumin Mansour, formerly Andrew Lee, who has spent the last 20 years wrongfully incarcerated. A rushed investigation, and a trial based on unreliable eyewitness testimony resulted in two decades of injustice. Now with new DNA evidence, an alibi witness, and further investigation, we know the truth.

This film was created by Georgetown students Symone Harmon, Ty Greensberg, and Anna Marguleas along with University of California Santa Cruz students Anysia Deák and Jake Rusco.

Tim Young

This documentary tells the story of Tim Young, who was sentenced to death in 2006. Tim’s conviction was the result of an untruthful jailhouse snitch and a mishandled piece of evidence. This documentary will show that Tim is more than his wrongful conviction
