Colie “Shaka” Long

Program Associate Colie “Shaka” Long became an author, speaker, and criminal justice reform advocate while serving over 26 years of incarceration. In his role at PJI, he supports program administration, returning citizens, and Prison Scholars at the D.C. Jail. He also serves as a teaching assistant at Georgetown University and as the program manager of the Family First Program at PJI.
Since his return home in July 2022, Long has served as a Justice Reform Fellow at FAMM and was appointed to the Board of Directors of Negotiation Works. He is the subject of a recently released documentary about D.C.’s Second Look legislation and continues to be an agent for change through his work with at-risk youth in underserved communities in the District.
