A Year of Family First Moments
Through shared experiences, the Family First Program helps strengthen the bonds of justice-involved families. The Family First Program opened the 2025 school year by welcoming families to a back-to-school event. Children received school supplies and each family joined a financial literacy seminar, creating a shared space where families could learn, plan, and prepare for the year ahead. As the months unfolded, the program continued to create moments of connection beyond the classroom.

Families laughed together on a sunny day at Six Flags, led by Program Associate Colie “Shaka” Long, where rides and games became opportunities for parents and children to bond. PJI Family First Program participants also enjoyed a kayaking trip at Key Bridge Boathouse. For many, it was their first time kayaking, and the smiles showed just how much fun they had.
The year concluded with the program’s second annual holiday celebration, turning PJI’s office into a winter wonderland. Children received gifts from their wish lists, families played games, and everyone shared in a festive meal. In its second year, the Family First Program continues to strengthen families and create experiences that nurture connection for justice-impacted households.
