Prison Reform in the National Conversation

Until recently, it was challenging to find news stories about criminal justice and prison reform. Social media has helped to increase awareness of mass incarceration by promoting the growing number of stories, reports, and documentaries.

Among the best sources of information is The Marshall Project, a nonpartisan news organization founded in 2014 that is entirely focused on the American criminal justice system.  In addition to its own features and in-depth coverage, The Marshall Project also produces “Opening Statement,” a daily email with criminal justice news from around the country.

In the coming months, the Prisons and Justice Initiative will highlight particular stories to share with our network of followers.
